About Zyrtec For in Questions
Is taking ginger supplements and Zyrtec allergy medication at the same time a bad idea? I have read a lot about the positive benefits of ginger supplements and I want to start taking them, but I am also on Zyrtec for my allergies. Are there any negative reactions I should be concerned about?

Shane replied: "no"

What is a pre ion strength allergy medicine that is equivalent to Zyrtec? Now that Zyrtec is available over the counter, I pay a lot more for it than I did w/ my co-pay for the pre ion. Is there a pre ion allergy medicine that is similar to Zyrtec? Aidan takes Singulair too. DUH, why didn't I think of that?!!! That's a 1/3 of the price of what I'm paying for Zyrtec right now. Thank you!

3 replied: "My husband takes Singulair."

Bullet Seed123 replied: "Have you tried Claritin."

Is it safe to drink alcohol after taking Zyrtec 12-13 hours ago? For my seasonal allergies, I take Zyrtec in the morning. Tonight i'll be going to a party where alcoholic beverages are served. If I drink at all, will it be safe? I don't plan on drinking all that much, so I'm thinking that taking it 12-13 hours ago wont really be that bad (the label says with alcohol, drowsiness will increase, but im spending the night there). Anything else other than that should I be concerned about?

hottie phat girl replied: "alcohol metabolizes after 4 to 6 hours you will be fine."

Omar R replied: "yes"

When should I take zyrtec for it to work best by evening and night? I'm going to a sleepover in a few days and but am allergic to the pets that will be there. So what time should I take zyrtec (24 hour pill) for it to work best that evening and night and into the morning?

lourdes r replied: "in that sleep over, as soon as you arrive, take the pill. to prevent a worsen scenario of an allergy coming."

jackmatt replied: "Zyrtec can make you sleepy so take it every night until then at night so that it starts working in time but also doesn;t make you sleepy before you get to enjoy the party. RN"

TnR replied: "You don't mention if you take it regularly or not. It needs to build up in your system in order to work properly. Its not just an every once in a while drug. I've been taking it for years and have found that although its supposed to be for 24 hours, it seems to start wearing off in the middle of the night when taken in the morning. So, your best bet would be to take it the afternoon of the sleepover."

Is generic Cetirizine HCL as effective as Zyrtec? Does it have different side effects? I've been taking Zyrtec year-round for years but am losing my insurance coverage. I can get 350 of the generic for about $17 but the best I can do on Zyrtec is 75 for $31!

daddyrx replied: "Cetirizine is just as effective as Zyrtec. The side effect profile is the same. Generic drugs undergo the same scrutiny as brand name drugs when they come onto the market."

Does Zyrtec or Claritin work better as an allergy medicine? I've been taking Claritin as needed for my springtime allergies. It works ok but they are really bad this year. Some people have recommended taking Zyrtec. Does it work better?

gomagic! replied: "for me it does. also try zyrtec d."

vaesar replied: "The web said no side effects.Click here site:has all things"

sMITTstar replied: "I always found Claratyne a better alternative as it worked better and because Zertec made me break out in a rash, apparently I'm allergic to the fillers. It really depends on what works best for you, everyone is different. You could ask your chemist which one they recommend for you though. Hope this helps :) xx"

MidnightSun95 replied: "My sister takes Zyrtec for her allergies and it works really well for her. It usually depends on the person; different things work for different people."

Lisa M replied: "At one time I took Claritin when it was a pre ion. I had taken it for years and it stopped working all together. I have always had eye allergies. I have numerous allergies, environmental, food, etc.... and after I tried Zyrtec it was fantastic. I love it and it helps my eyes tremendously. My kids also take it and I get the generic version and feel it works the same. I was so worried when it went over the counter cause I had tried the Claritin and it did not help. Either my allergies changed or the meds itself was different. Now I will also say that NO pill can keep me from a flare up and especially cat dander, dust, dust mites, etc.... but this is the best and have even tried to go back to pre ion allegra and a couple other new ones and they still don't do what Zyrtec can do. And I am allergic/sensitive to lots of medicines out there also and that is why I cant take the D form of most meds cause it is way to strong and I end up vomiting. Hopefully you are not like myself and can take most meds without problems. Good Luck and Hope Zyrtec works for you as it does work for me and my kids."

What is the difference between singulair and zyrtec or claritin? I currently take Singulair which has not helped me even though it used to. I'm now experiencing itching when im out side and my body feels like its burning up all the time. Can Zyrtec or Claritin do the job that Singulair couldnt? or should i look elsewhere besides me allergies for the root of the problem thank you all

Tressa M replied: "check out my blog on How to control seasonal allergies and what meds that are good to take. For me I like Zyrtec. "

cuppycake1995 replied: "pre ion clarinex is better than all of those put together!!!"

it's me replied: "I take singular every day and every other day I take zyrtec. the zyrtec has helped a lot even though I take it every other day. I would recommend that. I have taken claritin before but it didnt really help me. Ask your doctor if you have any other questions."

Can you build up a tolerance to the allergy medication Zyrtec? I've been taking Zyrtec daily since it came out OTC in January, so far it is has been amazing. However I've noticed for the past few days it hasn't been working as effectively as I'm used to. I'm wondering if you can build up a tolerance to this medication? Zyrtec has been the only thing that has worked for my allergies. Claratin is horrible! If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

stellar replied: "you can build tolerance to ANY medication!"

Samyw efc replied: "Yes any medication you take have less effects each time you take them, why don't you try piriton they are the best thing i know on the market, they do make you drowsy though but they do a non drowsy one called piriteze, its not as good but still effective. good luck."

versantly replied: "yes -this is very common. see your doctor for other options."

hmark replied: "If Zyrtec is not working as well as it did for you, it is not necessarily because you have been taking it too long (a few months), it may be because the trees and bushes are blooming and pollen is higher in the air. During this time, you may need a little bit more, but when the Summer & Fall season is over, you'll find that Zyrtec is working again for you. If you have a doctor, try Allegra 500 mg (pre ion only) works well during this time. Zyrtec is something mild taken every day, but alone it can't help with the pollen season."

What song is the Zyrtec commercial referring to? I watch tv frequently and am puzzled by the lady in the Zyrtec commercial, and she is petting a cat and says "Do you remember that song TIME IN A BOTTLE?" We'll I remember Message In A Bottle, but I havn't heard of Time In A Bottle. What is she referring to?

Trevor L. replied: "Jim Croce - Time In A Bottle Lyrics: If I could save time in a bottle The first thing that Id like to do Is to save every day Till eternity passes away Just to spend them with you If I could make days last forever If words could make wishes come true Id save every day like a treasure and then, Again, I would spend them with you But there never seems to be enough time To do the things you want to do Once you find them Ive looked around enough to know That youre the one I want to go Through time with If I had a box just for wishes And dreams that had never come true The box would be empty Except for the memory Of how they were answered by you But there never seems to be enough time To do the things you want to do Once you find them Ive looked around enough to know That youre the one I want to go Through time with"

kidhasan replied: "That's so funny! I hated when this commercial came on because I had no idea what the hell song that was!"

Is it safe to take Zyrtec and Benedryl together? I have really bad allergies and I've tried all of the medications to treat the symptoms. I've found Zyrtec to work the best but with it being an allergy season, it doesn't completely cure it. Is it safe to take Zyrtec and Benedryl together? Benedryl has helped in the past to some extent. Please let me know! Haaa-chooo!

Bella replied: "No no no. These both cause a lot of drowsiness and the combo can be very bad. I'm not sure what your symptoms are but you can do Zyrtec with a nasal spray or eye drops, but just don't do 2 pills."

detroiter1967 replied: "No you'd be giving yourself something similar to an overdose. They both have the same ingredients and do the same thing. Plus they cause drowziness. My suggestion to you is to make an appointment with a specialist. Allergy and Immunology. They can do an allergy test on you to pin point what you are allergic to. Once they find out the exact allergen they can treat you with the proper medication. I take medication as well as get immunology injections to help treat my allergies and low grade asthma. The wrong medication combined can cause death. Some medications don't counteract well with one another. Please don't mix the two you've mentioned. Please make an appointment to get treated properly. Best Wishes for a proper diagnosis and treatment."
