If I switch from vicodin or tylenol 4 to ultram or tramadol or ultracet, will I feel less loopy? I need occasional pain relief and hate the vicodin or tylenol 4 the doc gives me because I don't feel like myself. Yes, it helps the pain but I like being more clear-headed. Does ultram, ultracet or tramadol have the same effects as vicodin or tylenol 4?

kmr1234 replied: "No, Ultram, Untracet, Tramadol are all non-narcotics and less addicting."

treegirl replied: "You wont feel those side effects with Tramodol it does not work like those pain killers however it also does not work as well. Most people compare Tramodol to ibprofen."

Charles M replied: "tramadol is generic for ultram, i'm pretty sure they just give ultram or cheap version tramadol for substitute of vicoden or tylenol #4 if your getting tylenol #4 your doing pretty good. couse that should put you on the road to oxycodene . screw vicoden. your well on your way to pain management, or opiod addiction. have fun. i'll see you at the methadone clinic. ok."

US_DR_JD replied: "You may or may not feel similar side effects with the tramadol. Dizziness, drowsiness and weakness are the most common side-effects of tramadol. Also, contrary to the above responders, tramadol is a synthetic opioid, and can be addictive. I have had several people come to me complaining of having withdrawal problems with tramadol, and I have had to assist them through these issues. Additionally, a serious side-effect which is notable with Ultram (tramadol) which is not a significant issue with most opioid pain relievers is the risk of seizures, as it lowers the seizure threshold in susceptible patients. You will often have responders on YA tell you that this medication is similar to motrin, or tylenol, but it is a narcotic. When it was originally released, it was felt that due to the composition of the drug it would not have abuse potential, so it is not controlled. This has now been found to be incorrect. You may have equal, better or less lain relief with tramadol, and equal, better or more side-effects. It may be worth a try, but don't take this medication thinking it has none of the risks of other pain medications. Good luck with your pain control"

replied: "Tramadol will be less of that Euphoric feeling as Vicodin. I am surprised you are having problems with Tylenol 4 as Codeine is not very strong and tends to wear of after you take it a few times, but than again if you only take it on and off I see where the problem would be."

How can you detox from using Ultram? I had a script from the doc for three months - will I have trouble when the script runs out? It doesn't really work anymore, but I still took it as prescribed, and I am now worried about withdraw. I prefer not to take it anymore (insurance ran out)

col replied: "Just start cutting dose in half, after a few days in half again etc. then see how you do b/f you go off completely. I would definitely check with the doctor first, best advice, but I don't think Ultram is highly addictive, like Vicoden etc."

Endo replied: "Do not stop using this medication suddenly without talking to your doctor. You may need to gradually reduce the dose. Withdrawal symptoms may occur when you stop using Ultram. Withdrawal symptoms include anxiety, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, tremors, chills, hallucinations, trouble sleeping, or breathing problems. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these withdrawal symptoms after you stop using Ultram."

Blues Man & surf rat replied: "Ultram is NOT morphine & opium. It's in your head more than anything. If U R felling like U R sick, Chocolate malts & sugar is what is used. U should only feel like this for 2=4 days. Ultram is 1 of the weakest pain relievers there is. Hang in there."

katytex replied: "ultram is NOT a narcotic! you shouldn't have any problems..."

How do i ease withdrawals ( panic attacks, twitches, depression) from Ultram? Im weaning myself off...working under these conditions are next to impossible...and the clinic i go to has no availability for me.. i need some help

Google Me replied: "Ultram is a VERY weak drug and the withdraw is likely in your head but tell your DR to give u some Xanax 0.5 mg to take the edge off"

can you get withdrawal symptoms from Ultram? if so, what are the symptoms?

Charles H replied: "Direct Cut and Paste: Some people who use Tramadol for a long time without a break may develop a physical need to continue taking it. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. If you suddenly stop taking Tramadol , you may experience WITHDRAWAL symptoms including anxiety; diarrhea; fever, runny nose, or sneezing; goose bumps and abnormal skin sensations; nausea; vomiting; pain; rigid muscles; rapid heartbeat; seeing, hearing or feeling things that are not there; shivering or tremors; sweating; and trouble sleeping. Just searched for Tramadol on (Tramadol is the generic name for Ultram)"

Will my Ultram, and Valium and muscle help me withdrawl from Darvicet? It's all about lower back pain. I am saying muscle relaxers sorry,

Occam's Razor replied: "Yeah sure, they might help you withdraw from Darvocet. I'd ask your doctor or pharmacist."

Mortimer Obituary replied: "ultram will, but not valium. darvocet is a synthetic opiate and ultram mimics opiates, but valium is a benzodiazepine so it wouldnt help directly, maybe mentally though."

Ultram 50 mg is making me nauseous but I need it to take away pain from my ear infection, any suggestions??? I'm also taking the antibiotic Omnicef for the infection it just seems that I haven't been taking it long enough for the infection to clear up so its still very painful after the ultram wear off

sonicthescrewdriver replied: "Is the underlying infection being treated as well? This is more important than pain relief, the pain goes away quite rapidly once the infection begins to clear."

Lilaac replied: "I use the old fashion way of using Castor Oil. With an eye dropper (from pharmacy) I put gently warmed (put bottle in hot water for a few minutes) Castor oil (most pharmacies or health food stores carry ), then a small amount of cotton to hold it in. It is healing and consequently takes away pain. Very helpful."

lolaeatspeaches replied: "It is the anti-biotic that is making you nauseous not the ultram. Try taking both medicines with food. That may ease the nausea."

amandarez73 replied: "Take advil or tylenol - both will work better than the ultram for ear infection pain."

I am having bad side effects from Ultram I don't think they are severe enough to go to the E.R but, I feel? terrible! I took one this morning and decided I'm not going to take anymore until I can talk to my doctor but, how long should I expect the side effects to last? How long will they stay in my system? I have only been taking them for 2 days.

DynoDiKk replied: "OH MY GOD! This is truly a crappy drug. You can feel like you are going to have a stroke, extreme bloodshot eye's and all kinds of depression issue's. The side effects can last up to 72 hours. It builds up in you. MY GOD WHEN is this MONSTER going to be stopped! LOL.WHat makes this drug so terrible is the doc's LIE about it and it is totally synthetic and crap. You can read all over the interent on what a terrible drug this is. BE GLAD this happened to you now! For look at this scenario; Suppose you were taking them for a year and had to stop suddenly. Than you would have went through the worse physical and mental withdrawal on the face of the earth, and I weaned off all this stuff. Thank god you seen the light right away, a lot of people are not as fotunate and as we speak are going through absolute HELL trying to get off these things! Check your blood pressure and pulse, look for blue finger nail beds and watch for breathing problems and check your heart for weird rhythms! AND than THROW the remaining pills in the toilet, urinate on them and flush them! The thing is this, you are having a side effect as a result of the serotonin reuptake crap, and you might be experiencing an over-expression of dopamine. This can result in all sorts of wierd chit and god only knows what they can give you at the ER. It should end in 8 hours or less."

Question about switching from ultram to ultram er...? Okay here it is. My doctor is considering switching my Ultram (instant release form) to the Extended Release form. Right now I am at the max dose of 400mg. The ultram ER only comes up to 300mg. My question is will I have any side effects from the switch? Will I go into withdrawals because of the lower dose? Anyone else have any ideas?

Terry O replied: "To answer your question it is important to know how often you would take each of the medications. Usually doctors will prescribe so that the dosage level would be the same with fewer tablets or slightly higher to try to get a better response. Switching to ER itself should not cause any new side effects. A lower dosage could change the effect of the medicine, but withdrawal only occurs when a medication is totally removed."

Chas replied: "Here is a few link that will give you the same into your doctor would get on-line regarding Ultram"

How can Ultram become a controlled substance when chemically there are no narcotic ingredients? Yes, it is addictive in some individuals, making the FDA panicky. but i would think the manufacturers of Ultram and tramadol would want to keep it uncontrolled - as Monty Python once complained - "Our sales would plummet!" Not to mention the lifetime users (12 years) who rely on it, and whose GP is not allowed to prescribe controlled substances. This is a terrifying prospect.

fivemgmorphine replied: "Ultram is not a controlled substance."

phreadriquebean replied: "Controlled substances do not have to have narcotic ingredients in them. They simply have to be addictive. Or in the case of Pseudoephedrine, it is used to make other drugs. I haven't heard anything about a plan to make Ultram a controlled substance, but I haven't been looking really, either. I hope everything works out for you!"

Meg replied: "Your information is incorrect. Tramadol is an opioid, like many controlled substances are, and the early reports that it wasn't likely to cause dependence (which is different from addiction, by the way) have turned out to be inaccurate. It does appear to have abuse potential, which is what has generated some of the buzz about it potentially becoming a scheduled drug instead of an unscheduled one. Of course, the manufacturers would love to keep it uncontrolled, however, that decision isn't actually up to them. Whether or not to make a substance controlled is up to the FDA. As of this time, though, Ultram/Tramadol is still NOT on the controlled substance list and can be obtained via a regular prescription from your doctor."

Little Missy replied: "All addictive drugs should be pulled from the shelves of pharmacies. Ultrum included. The people who make narcotic drugs should spend the rest of there rich lives in prison and the FDA should also. They should be ashamed of there self's. When someone depends on a drug whether it be over the counter or prescribed they have a problem and it should be addressed."
