Can drinking beer while on paxil be bad for you? I take paxil for anxiety, But sometimes every now and then want to get drunk and drink like 9 24oz bud lights. Can this be a bad thing? Also I suppose to take 1 20m paroxetine every day but I take one every other day or sometimedays 2 days in a row. Can that be bad as well?

paramore replied: "i dont think its good to drink while youre taking medicine"

meagainsttheworld4 replied: "drinking at any time is bad for you but life is short so who cares"

lightcommastix replied: "You shouldn't drink alcohol while on Paxil - they work on the same receptors in your brain, and one will intensify the effects of the other. You should ask your doctor if you should avoid alcohol completely, or if a small amount is appropriate for you. Not taking the drug as prescribed can be a bad thing - it may be less effective, or not even work at all! You should take the dosage that works for you, but you should DEFINITELY make your doctor aware of your dosing schedule and see how he/she feels about it."

How bad is the withdrawal sydrome for Paxil? I'm planning to stop taking Paxil. What are the withdrawals like? Is it has bad as everyone says it is?

Nikki replied: "Don't just stop taking it. You need to wean off of it. Talk to the doctor that prescribed it to you. Best of luck. Read this link and click on the right hand side where it says "Important Safety Info", it states never to abruptly stop taking it because of side effects you will most likely get."

PRINCESS DI replied: "when i stopped, taking it i had terrible nightmares for a while but then they went away"

Chick replied: "i was 15 when i started taking it and i just quit and they told me later on that it was that i just stopped like that....they said that i could of died....like if you're taking 50mg a day then reduce to just 25 mg for about 3 weeks or so....,but keep in contact with your doctor cause every BODY is different and it also effects differently on everyone else..."

Alfie replied: "They say you are supposed to ween yourself off of it. Just cut your dose down each week or so and then just finally stop taking it. I pretty much stopped it cold turkey because it didnt' make me feel any better mentally or whatever but all that happened for a while was like a nausea feeling and slight buzzy feeling zaps in the head. Nothing serious. It goes away. You should wean yourself off though. Just ask your doctor."

Biology replied: "Yep, you need to gradually stop paxil and not just suddenly as it can result in serious side effects eg. Nausea, headaches, insonmmia, motion sickness. Take fewer doses at a time like 5mg each week."

Is Paxil a bad drug to take? I was on Celexa for a month for my anxiety disorder but it did nothing so my doctor prescribed Paxil and I've heard some bad things about the drug. It is really that bad? I know about all these Paxil protests and petitions which scares me.......please tell me if you know anything bad about it. Thank you.

mybribri03 replied: "It works for people. Just make sure you are not on it if you ever get pregnant."

sexiblnde replied: "I was on Paxil when I was younger and I HATED it. I was constantly in this plain mood, never very happy or never really sad. As far as depression, I think it made it worse. I did not like this medication. It did help with panic/anxiety but I found Xanax worked much better."

Kelly replied: "Have you tried Zoloft? It was the only one that worked for me with my anxiety. There are a lot of side affects with Paxil. Ask your doctor about Zoloft though."

Roger L replied: "paxil works great for me taken for years"

majnun99 replied: "I have taken Paxil since about 1993 and it worked for me better than anything else. I have also taken Desipramine, Buspar, Seroquel and Cymbalta. The only side effect I ever got from Paxil was delayed ejaculation. It may have caused me to gain weight but I'm not sure. Maybe I would have gained weight anyway; I was overweight when I was in my teens. Paxil is usually consider effective for depression and anxiety with mild side effects. However, people can react differently to medications. A few people may have problems with Paxil or find that it doesn't help them. The same drug doesn't necessarily work for everybody."

Is the prescription drug Paxil really bad? I used to take it and had pretty bad withdrawl symptoms. Has anyone else had any bad affects from it?

bmac replied: "Withdrawal from any antidepressant can be unpleasant. You can have a worsening of your depression, vertigo, nasuea, etc. That's why the doctor titrates (weens) you off slowly."

a_delphic_oracle replied: "I will be honest. I was, in the past, addicted to narcotics and tranquilizers so my doctor decided to put me on Paxil after I quit the drugs. It didn't help my 'depression' it made it worse and I also felt suicidal, which I had never felt before. I decided to quit taking the Paxil on my own and it was HARDER to get off of than ANY other drug I had ever been addicted to and those would be quite a few. Paxil is BAD and I am so glad I am off it. I feel sane again. I take no drugs now and feel great."

bigfoot replied: "Paxil should not be on the market"

dixie.flatline replied: "it is an ssri & although it is claimed it is not addictive it is, (symptoms: ) there also have been several studies where ssri's & anti-depressants further complicate depression & can end up in worst possible cases in homocidial rage & suicides"

Why does paxil have a bad reputation? Why is it regarded as worse than other SSRI's? Has anyone taken paroxetine? What were the effects for you?

.*`* Melissa *`*. replied: "Because it gives alot of people adverse reactions. Everything I've ever taken for Bipolar does that to me. So I don't take sh!t, now I'm nuts. LOL J/K. I took Paxil, Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Zoloft, Prozac. None of them worked for me. All gave me adverse reactions."

thorn105 replied: "I used to take it, and I think it helped me out of a serious depressive episode. (I am bi-polar) The trick was when I started to feel better, the doctor would have to wean me off it to keep me from becoming manic, it was like a roller coaster and hI had withdrawals when being taken off the med, which increased my anxiety, etc. I think for just depression, it is a good drug, but again the trick is when it is time to get off the medication. A friend of mine told me it was as harder to get off the paxil than it was to get off xanax. Any medication that messes with seretonin levels in your brain has a certain amount of evil attached to it, I think, because no one really know for sure what the long term effects of screwing around with them chemically will be. But for people who are seriously suffering from bad depression, I know it is a godsend. I have heard bad stories about prozac and other SSRI's too, I think it is just a personal decision we have to make with our doctor about what is the best for us. I mean are the benefits to us greater than possible side effects from the drug? When I took it for depression, it did help me, and seemed to not have as many side effects as other anti-depressants."

Opie K replied: "2 reasons: 1) the nasty side effects 2) it can be as hard as heroin to quit"

Bushmaster replied: "I took and I thought I was going to DIE coming off it !!! never again will I take something like that."

has anyone had any bad side affects taking paxil? Dr. just put me on that and im kinda scared to take it. I have heard several bad things about it.Does it make you gain weight to?

Opinionated replied: "Yes to both, i would advise another remedy."

ga.peach67 replied: "I never gained wait on Paxil but I was OVERLY cheerful, like jibber jabbering all the time. It's like the filter between my brain and my mouth was turned off. I weened myself off of them and take Wellbutrin instead. It might affect you completely differently, though."

wantsshy replied: "Weight gain absolutely 40lbs and it was not easy to tak off when I got off the med. Ask about lexapro maybe"

crocolyle10 replied: "No problems taking it, huge problems getting off of it. I have been on several types of anti-depressants both tricyclics and seratonin reuptake inhibiters such as Paxil. The withdrawal from Paxil was so difficult that for a time I thought I would have to take it forever. I had to wean myself off of it over a very long period of time. Try the tricyclics. They have been around much longer and have a much better history than the relatively newer drugs."

Regina P replied: "Yes.. stomach side effects (nausea), dizziness, fatigue, and the sexual side effects.. not being able to orgasm... are not worth it!! I switched to Celexa, which had no side effects for me. I've also heard people who are fine with paxil, though.. so give it a week and see how it goes."

erin k replied: "paxil was ok... the worst part was getting off... that was years ago and i no longer take any meds. i like it better this way."

Lynn G replied: "Not really bad side effects. I was really hyper for most of the day and then abruptly crashed at about 11pm every day for a few weeks. My appetite crapped out, but it returned to normal in about a month. I also had weird electrical-shock-like sensations in my head at first. They felt weird, but really didn't hurt. Those went away, but if I miss a pill, I get them again. I lost a small amount of weight, but I think that that is atypical. However, it really decreased my anxiety level, and decreased my heart rate and blood pressure. It is very subtle, and didn't make me feel drugged or anything. Yay, Paxil!"

Army Wife replied: "I was on Paxil for 2 years, but never had any weight gain. I was real cheerful for the first year or so, then I became really violent. My body had grown immune to it and wasn't helping, according to my doctor. I was taken off Paxil and put on Depakote and Seroquel. Some people say it works wonders, while other's say it made them feel worse. it all depends on how your body reacts to it."

swirlie replied: "I've never taken it, but my doctor said that Paxil isn't good for people with anxiety. It can make anxiety worse (ppl who have depression are often diagnosed with anxiety too). I don't think Paxil generally causes people to gain weight, but don't quote me on that. SSRI's like Zoloft and Lexapro are notorious for adding weight. I'm slightly underweight, and was actually prescribed a low dose of Zoloft when I had trouble keeping weight on in high school. Paxil is somewhere in between Wellbutrin (which actually makes a lot of people lose weight) and Lexapro in terms of weight gain, from what I understand."

Does anyone have bad side effects from the drug paxil? I have been taking paxil for several years now and I have constant dry mouth, tiredness, increased hunger... The drug does really help with the anxiety but I feel I can't live with thse side effects any more. Any ideas?

Hey Baby Its Darren Mr Love replied: "I WOULD SWITCH TO ZOLOFT"

rotc909 replied: "I WAS ON PAXIL AND I HAD TO CHANGE TO ANOTHER MED AS I FELT LIKE A SHAKEY OLD LADY.IN THE MORNINGS I HAD TO WOBBLE AS I COULD NOT WALK..DRY MOUTH NERVIOUSNESS AND MORE.MY DOCTER CHANGED MY MEDS 2TIMED AND NOW I'M ON PROZAC AND IT'S WORKING OK.YOU SHOULD CALL YOUR DOCTER AND GET ANOTHER MED THAT MITE NOT HAVE SO MANY SIDE EFFECTS,,GOOD LUCK"

If I'm on Paxil is it bad to smoke pot? I occasionally like to smoke weed, but I'm also on the medication Paxil. Is this bad?

Sam replied: "yes. you keep doing it you will die."

jjc927 replied: "Mixing medication with any kind of stimulant is asking for trouble. Do NOT do it."

Bob Saget replied: "It won't have any negative effects really. But marijuana might help cause the things you are trying to prevent with it. Just occasional use is fine aside from the whole illegal thing. From a medical standpoint it won't cause any problems. You should take it easy with it if you try though, it can have different effects on different people(some people said it made their high last longer, some said it made it more intense). While it won't result in any real medical problems you might end up getting too high or something, which can be pretty unpleasant."

Frankie V replied: "Marijuana has been linked with social anxiety, generalized anxiety, derealization, depersonalization, depression, and schizophrenia. You're on Paxil because you probably are depressed or anxious. Smoking very occasionally will probably not affect you negatively, but if you are smoking more than once every 2 or 3 weeks, then you probably aren't helping your situation. Marijuana and Paxil, when combined, however, probably don't cause brain damage or anything like that, but I wouldn't recommend it. There is no data on Paxil + cannabis."

Am i having a bad reaction to paxil? i feel high everytime i take it. its prescription and i have to take i high dosage everyday. Is it making me just feel high or is it making me high. I have noticed a change in my pupils when i take it and it makes me feel quite pleasurable. I guess the question i need to ask is it even possible to get high off of paxil? My doctor said he might need to lower my dosage.

karkensmama replied: "First off, if you know any preg. women taking this med. tell them to see their Dr ASAP!!! It can cause severe birth defects in babies! First off depends on your dosage. To me, it sounds like you are on a high dose to start off with. I was on Paxil for about 5 years give or take. (This is how I know about the birth defects because of both my daughters...) When I was first started off on Paxil my dose was 40 mgs twice daily... It was WAY to much for my body to handle. It was dropped down to 10 mg a day, and every week it was upped a bit until I was on the full dosage. Once I was on the full dosage, and it took weeks to do, I was prefectly fine. Wishing you all the best!"

lynn replied: "if you haven't been taking it for long, the high stuff will go away, usually about a month then you just even out to be a pleasant person :)"

Any bad withdrawals from paxil? Is quitting 60mg of paxil a day, that i have been taking for 6yrs.Agood thing or a very bad thing? If it is bad to quit cold turkey what are some answers as to how to do the right thing.

Carly replied: "I took paxil for five years. I had a horrible time quitting, but I finally did it. Quitting cold turkey was not the answer. I was extremely emotional when I tried that. What finally worked for me was taking one every other day for a couple of weeks. Then I took it every few days, and so on until I thought I could completely stop. It took a few months to totally stop, but it worked. Good luck!"

attitude992003 replied: "Quiting paxil cold turkey is not good. Even cutting the dose over time has side affects. I was on Paxil for 3 years 30mgs and I quit taking them. I hade buzzing in my ears, dizziness, trembles, ect. I would talk to your doctor to see what you could do if not taking them is what you really need to do."

mrspatpat79 replied: "I quit cold turkey and it SUCKED. I had vertigo so bad for three or four weeks. I would suggest weaning yourself off of it...or take a few days off of work if you quit altogether. Good luck."

HealthyGirl replied: "Bless your heart, I've been there. Cut your pills in half and take half doses for a week then taper it off to a half dose every other day for a week then finally you can stop altogether. That's how I came off of mine."

prncsspresley replied: "MRSPATPAT needs to go back on it!"
