Is it okay to take daily prescribed allergy medications like Allegra and Singulair with alcohol? I have seasonal allergies and am concerned about drinking after taking my daily meds.

Kate S replied: "I have used both Allegra and Singulair and haven't had a problem drinking wine. However, I never took the meds and drank directly after."

Dark Angel replied: "WELL LIKE MANY MEDS ALCOHOL WILL ONLY MAKE YOU WORSE AS IT WON,T WORK WITH ALCOHOL AND MANY MEDS MIXED WITH ALCOHOL = DEATH."

versantly replied: "one or 2 drinks shouldn't affect the med, but follow up with your pharmacist to be sure."

justme replied: "i really dont think it is okay to drink alcohol when you have taken ANY medicine. pretty much every medication says so on the label."

Do you think the medication Allegra has ruined the name? I'm really sad because I like this name, well its one on my list. Do you think it would be terrible to name a child this? I live in America so its kind of a well known medication.

Jade - Baby #1 due 12th Sept 09 replied: "I love the name Allegra but I am Australian so the fact that it is an American medication doesnt mean anything to me. Allegra is currently one of 2 names we are thinking of using for our baby girl due soon :)"

You Know You Love Me ~ xoxo GG replied: "You know i just hate when people say oh thats a brand of so and so. Big deal unless its like condoms you know lol?? I think its a lovely name, it means happiness which is great for a little girl! :)"

Bella babyyy replied: "Yes, everytime i hear the name Allegra it makes me think of the medication.."

_Sakura_ AnnaSophia Marie replied: "Yes, and that caused me to dislike it. However, it is a very beautiful name, so don't be afraid to use it. I, for one, would never laugh at the name. And yes, I do live in the U.S."

Stormy replied: "Not at all. I like the name Allegra, too! Do they even make Allegra allergy medicine anymore? I haven't seen a commercial for it in YEARS. (I actually don't think of the medicine when I hear it anyway - I usually remember an old show from when I was a kid called "Allegra's Window" or something - it was a puppet show for kids, very cute.) It's not as though you want to name her Viagra or Cialis. LOL That would be bad, and I'd try to talk you out of that. But Allegra is a legitimate name that was unfortunately used for allergy meds. A bit inconvenient, but I don't think that should stop you from using it - it's a great name!"

What is the environmentally safest way to dispose of expired medication? (specifically Allegra)? Given the stories of how traces of medicines are being detected in fish and local waterways, I'm afraid to flush expired pills (the sewage treatment process doesn't clean out everything). Is tossing the stuff into the trash for the landfill or incinerator any better? Should I treat this stuff as "hazardous waste" and wait for the local collection of chemicals?

bestonnet_00 replied: "You should flush it away, sending it to landfill is just asking for some druggie to take it to get high (maybe one individual doing it won't be too much of a problem but if everyone did it...). BTW: Trace amounts aren't necessarily harmful (we can detect a lot of things at levels that aren't a problem for us, thus why rational people don't worry about pesticide residue)."

Putney Lass replied: "Take all unused/unwanted medicines to your local pharmacy and they will dispose of it for you."

heart palpitations from allegra or other meds? I recently had chest pain on my left side and an increase in my heart beat. I went to the doctor yesterday and got an EKG done and he said it was just the allegra (that i was put on for fluid in my ear) speeding up my heart. Has anyone else had this experience with allegra or any other medications? I'm off the allegra now but how long does it take for side effects like this to go away?

Mike S replied: "Yes, I had the same thing happen to me. Stopped taking Allegra and the palpitations went away."

sweetea replied: "Yes, from Allegra-D or anything with a Sudafed type decongestant. They also made me manic so I avoid all decongestants now... it makes the allergy season tougher but it's worth it to avoid those nasty side effects. I felt "normal" again after a couple weeks. Good luck!"

pamela d replied: "well with me l can`t take allegra cause of my overactive thyroid. lt wouldn`t be a bad idea lf you had some blood test done just to see lf everything is ok"

Can I take these medications together, or will there be an interaction? IMMEDIATE HELP PLEASE!? Hi! I am on the following medications: Allegra-D 24-hour qd (for allergies) Biaxin 500 mg bid (sinusitis) Flovent 440 mcg bid (asthma) Benadryl 50 mg q4h prn (I get a lot of rashes, so this is used and OK'd by my dermatologist to be taken with the Allegra-D, even though it's 2 antihistamines -- right now it's for eczema and some contact dermatitis/hives) ... and now what I'm thinking of taking is a DuoNeb nebulizer treatment (Albuterol inhailer isn't cutting it, and last time it was this bad, neither did the Xopenex, so I had to be put on oral steroids and DuoNeb [atrovent and albuterol]). Can these things be taken together? Thanks so much! Also! I forgot to add! Sometimes I get a little chest pain while doing the DuoNeb treatment... is that normal? It goes away within 10 minutes of being done. I know it will raise my blood pressure, but my blood pressure is usually VERY low (85/55 - 95/65), and in the hospital when they gave me 4 back-to-back DuoNeb treatments, it only went up to like 100/70.

versantly replied: "ask your pharmacist."

2 $weet replied: "No, 2 or 3 of these drugs will raise your blood pressure, which is not good at all. "

Josie826 replied: "The person you should be asking is a pharmacist. He/She will be able to look all of the drugs up and tell you if there are any interactions."

something awesome replied: "Call a pharmacy. Pharmacists will tell you (for free) whether or not you can take certain medications together."

Bubbles replied: "Why are you asking people on Yahoo? I wouldn't trust responses on a forum like this for that kind of question. I worked with a man once whose daughter died when she took a night time medicine like Nyquil with her allergy medicine. She was 30 years old with three kids. Don't mess around. Talk to your doctor and your pharmacist before taking anything else. You are on too much now. (Allegra stinks!!!) Your pharmacist is a good source of information for this kind of thing."

i hate phil collins replied: "most CVS, Walgreen's, and other pharmacy's are open 24 hours. try giving one a call."

Pure Star replied: "Ring your local pharmacist for professional advice over the phone. It costs nothing and is the safe choice."

schazjmd replied: "If you can't get to a pharmacist immediately, check the drugs against each other at,,00.html"

Ringer replied: "You might want to check your blood pressure, taking all those antihistamines will raise it considerably due to dilation of blood vessels."

Frank R replied: "You should be able to take those meds together I have given similar combinations. I am not sure about taken the Flovent and the Duo Nebs though since those are both steroids. As for the ches pain that is not normal I have seen Albuterol cause palpitations, atrial fibrillation so chest pain is a serious adverse reactions. I recommend you go to the ER for the chest pain and consult with your PCP and/or pharmacist regarding an compatability issues."

sangbarta replied: "..there should not be any pharmacological interactions..though your individual responce may be affected .....like two antihistamines together will get you more drowsy. yes blood pressure is a serious concern too.. that needs to be closely monitored,...and you read what Frank. R has already said .. ...by the way high doses of steroids for long time is not at all good for your health...bye take care"

bubkiss replied: "Never ask a question of such significance on this site. 95% of the people on it don't know anything about medication interaction. Your doctor should have advised you of what you can expect from taking all these medications at the same time. Take your list to a pharmacist (your pharmacist would be advisable) and have him review the assortment with you. He will tall you if you can be in danger....high blood pressure, low blood pressure, skin irritation, blurred vision, etc."

I have year round allergies and I have to take allegra 180mg every day but I just ran out. Anything similar? I need to find a medication that is similar to Allegra 180mg. I have to refrain from taking Benadryl cause it makes me sleepy and if I have to work in the afternoon it doesn't help me much if I cannot function. The medication has to be over the counter. Help?

Malik I replied: "I take zyrtec and claritin for my allergies. They may help you."

Gwen B replied: "I don't think so, my insurance won't pay for Allegra because they claim there is an equivalent over the counter and my pharmacist said there is NOT an equivalent Clairitin is the closest thing but he said it is NOT the same drug at all. So, I pay out of pocket for the Allegra its worth it, talk to your pharmacist about this one."

mon3tp replied: "i use a asma spray for my nose, is the best thing to ever happen to my allergies"

Daniel T replied: "Nasalcrom you have to take it continuously for it to be effective, but it does work."

ladyflash1980 replied: "The joy of allergies. I have tried a lot of prescription medications and over the counter ones. FEW do much for me. I have found some relief from Airborne or Mucinex. You won't know if they work for you until you try them. Look for the smallest bottles and try them. There are a lot of other options, Zyrtec, Claritin, etc. There are also some herbal and homeopathic ones that might help as well. Echinachea and Golden Seal help. My Dad also uses a saline solution that helps him."
