is lithium orotate or lithium aspartate best for mood swings? you see i get major mood-swings. i am taking between 4 - 5 tablest of lithium orotate 2 times a day to get benefit from it. i am wondering if lithium aspartate might be better for me (stronger in effect). also do you think taking up to 10 tablets of lithium orotate is dangerous? i think these 10 pills are equivelent to 1 elemental lithium carbonate pill.

virginia b replied: "I am not aware of lithium aspartate. However, the lithum orotate I have been taking for about 1 year now. I know it works great for me. However, not all supplements work the same for all people. I am not aware of any dosage not to exceed when taking lithium orotate. I would make sure that you taking a lithium orotate that follow the Hans Nieper formula. I would also consult with a naturopathic physician who might some other recommendations in regards to setting your own personal protocol to ease your stress. I know a something else you might consider is to try to eliminate caffeine from your diet. I know that it helped when I did eliminate from my diet. I hope this helps answer your question."

Sarah M replied: "Hi ahlussunah I understand a lot of people are reluctant to take prescription lithium. However, I am a bipolar person who takes it and it has saved my life. For me (I take a low dose) there are no major side effects, and at a cost of only $4 a month as it is not a patented drug. It is just as natural as the other forms of lithium you are suggesting - just a simple mineral salt. To me there are a couple of problems with what you are doing: 1. The evidence that lithium orotate or lithium aspartate can help with mood swings in humans does not exist yet. Research has been done but it is inconclusive and conflicting and mostly based on rats. The websites taht supply all the testimonials about how great it is are in the business of selling and promoting the stuff. 2. These products are not FDA approved so you can never be certain about the purity or strength or a particular batch or brand. I do think just taking more and more is unsafe. Instead, would you consider talking to a psychiatrist and trying a very low dose of lithium carbonate instead? To get enough lithum to help control bipolar, regardless of the form, would be safer under the supervision of a medical expert. Please don't think I am just anti natural medicine. I really understand as I personally resisted taking lithium for years but now things are great. Also please look at the 2 links below and get some balanced perspectives. You could actually be doing yourself more damage by taking the large doses that you are taking instead of a prescribed dose of Lithium Carbonate. If you have mood swings that are concerning, see a doctor and get a correct prescribtion."
