Only for people who is taking lamictal, lexapro or lorazepam? I suffer from panic disorder with depression , I been taking lexapro 10 mg for 2 and half year now and lorazepam for 3 years, my anxiety was controlled by recently I have up and downs, One week I feel i fell ok and other no too good , depress, my psquiatris added lamictal 4 days ago for stabilizing my moods and to help with my depression, he also says it might help slighty with anxiety. Anydody in lamictal or lamictal and lexapro together if yes how you feel, and how long it takes for lamictal to start working?

STARLITE replied: "I am a severe bipolar - currently am taking Lamictal and Xannax only. Lamictal is SUPPOSE to stabilize me! Being bipolar I was told they no longer prescribe anti-depressants due to heighten of suicidal thoughts. I was on Lexapro - but refused to take it after 1 - not getting any better with the depression 2 - makes you gain weight, big time! I was once on 5 different anti-depressants. Anyway - Lamictal is keeping me from the severe downs, But I am Constantly hyper... with more anxiety than previous. 100mg recently upgraded to 200mg - but it made me feel like I was drunk, zombie, couldn't wake up feeling so I cut back to 150mg. Removed listed effects but still hyper and anxiety!"

ron b replied: "it takes a few weeks to stabilize you the dr should have started you on a dose pack that increase the med every few days until a therapeutic range is established"

ashleyligon1967 replied: "Here is my experience with the psych worlds prescripiton drug business. In 2003/4, I started having panic attacks I was taking 1200 mg or seroquel, 10 mg of lexapro and 14 mg of klonopin a dayn the past 5 years, my insurance company has paid out over $65,000 for my psych meds, at one point . I was thrown in jail for 5 months and went cold turkey from all the meds. Crack heads in jail told me I should have died from withdrawl. When I walked out of jail, I said I would never take another psych med again and I haven't. I no longer have panic atacks and I am able to function with a full time job and raising my daughter. The psych world is a business and are in it for making money. Most mental health professionals hand out these meds because drug companies give them free samples or it's the newest "cure" on the market. Take control of your own life and quit relying on someone to fix it for you or the freaking magic pill to fix it, you are a guniea pig to the pharmaceutical companies. Thats my 2 cents, take it or leave it. Oh yeah since I no longer take any of those meds I have lost 50 lbs."

insideoutside replied: "i'm on lamictal with lithium for bpII disorder. have you discussed Buspar with your doctor? It's supposed to be great for anxiety and takes about 6 weeks to kick in. Even though six weeks seems an awful long time to wait, I was considering it for my own anxiety disorder (now gone thankgoodness!!!!) because it's not supposed to make you feel like a zombie like Ativan and Klonipin. But, I have no idea what you need as far as meds go, nor if lamictal helps for anxiety. I just started lamicatal and I'm trying to switch from lith to lamictal....... i'm on 25mg for two weeks and the doc and I are going up very slowly. good luck"

laurarae12 replied: "I'm on lexapro 10 mg too, and I took celexa before that. I have major depression, but I don't have a panic disorder. Regardless, though, you said you starting taking lamictal 4 days ago-well, its pretty typical for these kinds of meds to take at least a full week before it fully kicks in. Also, when you switch it up like you've done, your body needs to adjust, so be patient. Lexapro is pretty good because it doesn't have so many side effects-but its a little weak as an upper. I would ask your doc about Celexa if your depression doesn't improve in a few weeks, it works really well, but it might make you a little hyper. Try to avoid consuming a lot caffeine or alcohol, as these things tend to have some pretty unpleasant side effects with antidepressants-at least that's been my experience! Be patient, I know it can be frustrating finding something that works, but don't give up! Once you find whatever it is that works for you, your quality of life will improve soo much! Best of luck to you!"

StarrLite replied: "I am pretty sure lamictal is one medicine that starts working pretty fast. I would say within a week or so. It doesn't come in an extended release tablet and you only need to take it once a day. Basically it lasts long in the blood. I started taking it about 2 months ago. I take that with Topamax now. I was on Cymbalta but that ended recently. BPII (BTW - I don't LIKE taking drugs and would prefer not to take them. I just went thru Cymbalta withdrawal and it wasn't pretty. Certain illnesses, in opinion, can't be tamed without them -- case in point bipolar)"

niteowl replied: "If you have any Recovery, Inc. groups in your area, I'd suggest you check them out. (check the paper for meetings in your area) They teach tools you can use to lessen the symptoms and it works. (Any Cognitive therapy you can get, will help) It's not good to rely on medications for anxiety or for sleep. I'm serious. I'm not trying to be mean- or put you down for taking them. I'm not one of those to just say change you thinking - as I know it's not simple! I myself have serious, serious sleep problems and know how sleep meds quit working so easily. I also have ativan- which I save for a "real emergency"- when I lose my temper I take a couple before someone can call the cops or before I destroy something I can't afford to replace. If you take it all the time it doesn't do a thing after awhile. I'm bipolar and I know that mood stabilzers are not addicting and their effectiveness does not decrease with use. But the effectiveness for all anxiety medications does decrease, plus many are very addicting. Try therapy, if you can."

Is Lamictal or Lexapro withdrawals lethal? I take Lamictal and Lexapro. If I were to stop these, do I have a chance to dying? Or like, what would happen? Just curious since people are so freaked out about stopping anti-depressants and stuff so suddenly.

electriceye_88 replied: "Its definatley not lethal, if you stop straight away the chances of your deression comming on worser, harder and stronger increase dramatically. I did that, i took myself off lexapro once and fell into one of the worst depressions ever. Hope that helps"

Shar B replied: "I don't know about Lamictal but I can tell you that when I stopped cold turkey taking Lexapro I felt like at times I was floating or very light headed; sometimes a bit dizzy. I didn't like the feeling. I got my prescription refilled and everything got better. Never go cold turkey off of any anti depressant. It may not kill you but it has some nasty side effects."

Esq. replied: "Talk to your doctor. You need to slowly be "weaned " off if that is what the doctor recommends. Don't do it on your own. I think you'd pretty much go into a rapid funk if you stopped completely. Not lethal though, unless the depression would be life-threatening. Something to think about before a person messes with their prescriptions."

Owen D replied: "nothing would happen. nadadukes"

painisbeauty726 replied: "if you do stop taking lamictal, tell your doctor, because if you start taking it again, it is very important to start on a low dose and work your way up to your previous dose. i certainly hope you already know this because it's a doctors responsibilty to point out dangerous reactions and stuff. mine said that a 'fatal rash' can occur when someone takes lamictal at a high dose without building it up first."

Richard Brommer replied: "Although probably not lethal, it is strongly recommended to wean off these medications slowly with the assistance of your doctor. People have experienced a variety of side effects such as miscarriages, panic attacks, etc. when stopping cold turkey. By gradually decreasing the amount taken, you can slightly minimize these effects on the body."

I take lexapro and Lamictal, what's an easy way to describe to someone what my condition is? I work in an office, its small only 5 people but I don't show the kind of emotions that I think my boss expects me to, like he seems to think I'm not enthusiastic about something because I don't visually express it, I'm sure part of it is just my character but I know most of it is from either the drugs or my medication. I need a way to explain it without going into the really specific details.

connie b replied: "I TAKE THE SAME MEDS AND FOUND THAT IF I TAKE THEM BEFORE BEDTIME THEY DO NOT KEEP ME FROM FUNCTIONING NORMALLY AT WORK. BUT IF I TAKE THEM DURING THE DAY, CANT FOCUS OR FUNCTION NORMALLY. ALSO CANT RESPOND OR REMEMBER AS WELL IF TAKEN DURING THE DAY. DID YOU TRY TAKING THEM AROUND 7PM BEFORE BED. MAYBE YOU WONT HAVE TO EXPLAIN ANYTHING."

spaceytracey3 replied: "Just tell them you have a mood disorder."

WiserAngel replied: "If I were you, I'd do what I do and learn how to fake enthusiasm. I'm on Lexapro and Xanax and sometimes the Xanax will make me want to crawl under my desk and take a nap. My job is too important to me, so I do my best to play along. I'm getting pretty good at it!"

kiaunamaha replied: "I take Lamictal, and I actually feel more self-conscience than ever. I work with about 450 people, but it's actually easier for me to cope than when i worked for a company of about 150"

What kind of diet aids can I take if I am taking Lamictal and Lexapro? I can't get an appointment with my MD for 5 weeks! I want to get going. I am working out but need something to help flush the fat.

Brandon L replied: "dont bother with weight loss pills, they dont work. try water or green tea, green tea has ginsing and caffeine which are natural diuretics, this wont help you at all with fat, as weight loss pills usually dont, what they do do, is drain the extra fluids in your body out which contribute to volume and weight. you seem to be taking the initiative, just eat a lot less then usual and exercise a lot and stay consistent, the results are always phenomenal."

omgitsmogo replied: "Well if you're taking other medications you'll want to avoid fat burning pills and go for the fat blockers. Right now I take a fat blocker called Proactol, which is totally safe to take with other medications because its all natural (made from cactus leaves) So when you go to your doctor you should definitely ask him about it, before you start taking anything. I read about Proactol here "

has anyone ever taken LAMICTAL or LEXAPRO? I'm interested in the pros and cons of each, like side effects not noted on the sheet at the pharmacy, etc. I really need to know 'cause my doc wants to put me on um only because I told him I'm sad but that isn't everyday, HELP PLEASE!

mysihba replied: "HI, the facts given by the pharmacy are fairly vague. The fact is each one affects each person in a different way. SSRI's (the newer class of anti-depressants) kill my sex drive and add to anxiety. For others they don't at all, etc. Some act quicker than others. Why don't you ask your Dr. about all your concerns and questions and while you are at it think about if there is a reason for the depression you can pin point. There usually is an underlying cause. If you can figure that out (might need help) it may go away. It can't hurt to do a trial on any of them if you need them. Beware of this forum. You will notice regarding takeing med X...people state things like "don't take med X", instead of stating their experience....which doesn't really matter cause yours probably will be different. If it's "occasional" sadness maybe you don't need them. Some Dr.s give them to anybody feeling down. OR he has good reason to think you need them. Getting to the root of the problem is the best solution. while working on that it won't hurt to try a med and if you want to try something right now that will help.....go get some exercise ! You might have grown tired of hearing that like I did.....but it works !!"

Paul A replied: "I've been taking Lexapro for over a year and a half - and it's worked pretty well for me. It does make me drowsy, so I take it at night before I go to bed. You might check out their websites, I don't know about Lamictal, but Lexapro is. Also, do a Google search on them, there should be a lot of information on the internet about both medications."

Lea replied: "Lexapro is an anti-depressant. It is commonly used. Most of the side effects will go away after taking it for a week or so. The most common are dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea, headache, etc. Lamictal is not a drug you use for depression. It is used for bipolar disorder and epilepsy. It has very serious side effects. It is not a nice drug. Side effects include nausea (14%), insomnia (10%), somnolence (9%), back pain (8%), fatigue (8%), rhinitis (7%), non-serious rash (7%), abdominal pain (6%), dry mouth (6%), constipation (5%), vomiting (5%), exacerbation of cough (5%), pharyngitis (5%). "

rgriffis68 replied: "Medications should only be used if you have been diagnosed with a specific disorder. Persistent sadness is just one symptom of depression and alone is not sufficient for a diagnosis. I'll assume that if your doc is prescribing, that you have been diagnosed with depression and it is for the first time and that this is the first time you've been advised to medicate. Throwing both Lamictal and Lexapro at you is too heavy-handed in my opinion. Lexapro is a very strong medication. It is an SSRI and the long term effectiveness of these meds is debatable. They also have unpleasant side-effects. Lamictal is much milder and is one of a long line of mood stabilizers. I've been on it 7 years and am not aware of ever experiencing side effects. I have experienced mild anti-depressant effects, and also it has prevented future depressions and manias (went I went off it once it resulted in one of each). Lamictal is milder, with lower side-effects, and is a more proven short-term treatment and maintenance treatment. Try it first before loading up on Lexapro. In my experience, SSRI's like Lexapro are no good. They can lift you out of depression, but can make you suicidal and manic. If you stay on them they can wear off. They can make you less responsive to other anti-depressants. They can also push you further into the bipolar spectrum. They can fulfill a short term need but then make you worse off in the long run. That's just my opinion as a patient. Good luck working this out with your doctor. I appreciate his zeal to make you better, but you don't want to enter the world of medication without treading lightly and carefully."

lexi m replied: "That's kind of weird that he only wants to put you on one medication. As another person said, Lexapro alone can increase mania... it's not really a drug used for strict depression. I took it and my sex drive was completely messed up. (Anorgasmic meaning no orgasms) but this side effect went away when I stopped Lexapro. I currently take Lamictal 200 mg and the only bad side effect is acne so I have to see a specialist for that. I also take Geodon 40 mg (for mania) and Abilify 10 mg (for depression)... these are all bi-polar meds. If you just have depression alone, you should probably get something like Zoloft. Overall, I recommend getting a second opinion from another psychiatrist."

Effectiveness of Lexapro & Lamictal? Until recently I was taking 15 mgs of Lexapro a day for depression and anxiety. However, my psychiatrist recently started me on Lamictal as a mood stabilizer and wants to taper me off of the Lexapro. I'm currently taking 5mgs of Lexapro daily and 150 mgs of Lamictal daily. Eventually I'll be at the "maintenance" dose of Lamictal (200 mgs) a day. I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there who takes these two drugs concurrently and what their experiences have been. I'd love to be off of the Lexapro entirely but my depression and anxiety problems have me concerned that I may still need it. Does anyone else have insights or similar experiences with these two medications? I'd love to know about your experiences in order to have more perspective. Thanks!

boomaus replied: "I'm singing praises for Lamictal. My clients have taken it with wonderful results. I highly suggest it, especially over lexapro."

Deyon W replied: "it works fine with me."

How can I get Lexapro and Lamictal without insurance or much money? I'm in Japan and they don't have them. I really need those medications my whole life. I want to be careful about money and I don't want to do anything illegal. This is very important to me. I'm an American who will live here four more years. Please help me.

mevlana replied: "You could try writing to the drug companies that make the medications and see if they could help you. Montel talks about a presciption deal to help people on his show...I don't remember the name..Partnership for Prescriptions Alliance?"

Moonfairy replied: "There are legit pharmacies that ship. Have your dr give you a prescription, or have him fax it to a US pharmacy for a 3 months supply of each. IF you already have a dr in US you were seeing, give him a call... I am surprised they would not have these drugs in Japan..weird.."

Lexapro/lamictal combo making me TOO mellow.? i have started taking lexapro and Lamictal for 2 weeks now, and i have seen a drastic change in my personality. I am TOO mellow, showing no emotion and saying things i normally wouldnt, i dont notice at the time but my dear friend has told me of how i am acting. i cant control it and he knows it, but i feel its hurting him because i show no emotion. (i am suffering from manic, somadic and clinical depression and anxiety as well as bipolar) my question is, will it stop seeing how i have just started or is it the combonation, or somthing else?

lip11 replied: "I'd discuss these issues with your psychiatrist. Every person is unique and we could never give you a satisfactory answer here."

missahlissah replied: "I had also taken Lexapro and it did the same thing to me. I would let your doctor know that you're still not yourself. It could be that you are taking too much or to little of the medication or that certain med isn't right for you. Don't just stop taking your meds though! :)) Call your doc!"

Vampire Master replied: "Talk to a doctor or quit taking it then"

mlgable replied: "This is something you need to talk to your doctor about. Only can tell if this will even out or not or if he needs to adjust your meds."

poshbaby24 replied: "you need to talk to the one the prescribed this medicine and tell them what's going on and they will put you on the right treatment."

Does anyone have experience with weaning off of Lamictal and Lexapro for bipolar? I was hospitalized once eight years ago for an episode of psychosis

Steven_Primm replied: "Weaning off of Lexapro made me feel like jumping out of my own skin. But you must realize that the experience is going to be different for every individual. Never weaned off of lamictal, but I have been told that the feelings are similar to what you feel while ramping the dose up. I hope that helps. I sounds like you have some concerns/fears. Talk to your doctors and see what they say."

Gaiares_User replied: "I, too, was in the hospital for psychosis about a year ago. I came off of Lamictal and Trileptal myself. I didn't just stop taking it; I just took less and less of it until I didn't take any more. Sometimes, I did feel funny. . . like agitated, tingly and so forth but it wasn't so bad that I would not stop taking it. After all, doctors told me I would have to take Lamictal for the rest of my life for bipolar disorder and I was sure as hell out to prove them wrong. And I was able to prove them wrong because those @ssholes misdiagnosed me in the first place and I managed to beat my depression after I stopped taking the meds. The meds did work at first Lamictal [3-4 mos] and Trileptal [1yr] but after a while, it was just time for me to stop taking. All good things come to an end. I don't have any experience with the Lexapro. Hope this helps."
