About Lasix For Weight Loss in Questions
question on extreme weight loss and gain due to metabolism? I'll try to make this as short as possible ok so here goes my question...I am on bp medicine, lasix, and cholesterol pills due to me being overweight I have these problems. My reg. Dr. sent me to a Cardio Dr. to get my heart checked out since I had alot of water retention in my legs and chest awhile back but it went away when I started taking the lasix. The Cardio Dr. did an EKG and heart sonogram...and said that it was fine....I just needed to lose weight. So I am trying like hell to lose weight..I could eat salads for 5 days and gain 7 lbs....I could eat cheeseburgers for 5lbs and i'll lose 12 lbs....what is up with that!!! I gained 9lbs. in one week and all the while i'm keeping my calorie intake to under 1500. The Cardio Dr. said my metabolism is messed up and that there is a gland? by your kidneys that also helps control your metabolism and that mine must be messed up so he is sending me to an endocron...dr...i guess for diabetes checking? I'm confused on all of it...anyone help ?

Dr. Islam replied: "Metabolism is essentially the speed at which our body's motor is running. The speed at which our body burns calories is called the metabolic rate. It's how fast your "motor" is running when you're still in a reclined position or sleeping. About 60-75% of energy is expended by the body at rest in such activities. The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout the day. Our body constantly burns calories to keep us going whether we are eating, sleeping, cleaning etc. People with a lower percentage of body fat (i.e. muscular) have a higher metabolism than others that are less muscular because muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than fat. Some people have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time staying slim. Younger persons have higher (faster) metabolism because of the increased activity of cells. A slow metabolism actually causes to store fat. The slower the metabolic rate, the greater the weight gains. How to build muscles to improve metabolism? What type of exercise is ideal that speed up metabolism so that you burn calories even at rest or sleep? There are simple exercises that speed up the metabolism. Causes for Low Metabolism * Fasting * A low calorie diet * Snacking throughout the day on high sugared foods (candy, colas, cakes, gum). * Eating or drinking too much sugar containing foods. * Lack of physical activity. * Underactive thyroid. Metabolism Boosters There are some natural metabolism boosters (natural foods) that improves your metabolism. Do not take over the counter pills containing animal thyroid extract that claim to boost up metabolism. These products may have side effects as diarrhea, increased heart rate, excessive sweating, nervousness, tremors, bulging eyes, etc. How to Improve (Speed up) Metabolism * Do not skip any meals * Exercise daily * Build your muscles * Avoid alcohol, sugar, and fastings *Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily. *Eat foods with high nutrition values"

Dog is lethargic with gagging, foul smelling nasal discharge, weight loss, and loss of appetite. Help Please!? I adopted my dog from my local humane society and the first week we had him home he started coughing. We took him to the vet and they said it was kennel cough. The vet gave us antibiotics but after they were all gone he got sick again. We took him back and he said that the strand of kennel cough that has been going around was especially stubborn to get rid of. He gave us more meds for kennel cough. He showed some improvement but then he got worse. He has labored breathing, gagging, loss of energy, and loss of appetite, and has a very foul smelling clear nasal discharge. We have taken him back to the vet and he did x-rays of his chest and thought maybe there was some fluid but he was on lasix which didn't help very much. My dog is a border collie mix under a year old and I also have a four year old rat terrier who has not gotten sick.last time we took him to the vet, he was tested for heartworm and it was negative.. and I did get to see the x-ray and I saw white stringy looking stuff. (almost wormy looking) When the vet was looking at the x-rays he wasn't sure what to make of what he was seeing so he sent them to Lousiana State University for their opinion. They said they saw nothing wrong except for the fact that the dog was skinny.

LoVeAnImaLs replied: "All I can tell you is go back to the same vet, or try a different one. Stress for them to look for something further than kennel cough."

Beagle Girl replied: "You might want to try to stop giving its medicine, maybe for about 2 days"

banana66 replied: "im so happy your taking care of him and taking him to the vet! the dog sounds like he really needs it and the vet sounds like he know $HIT ALL! obusly thus animal is suffering. maybe change vets! thius one sounds liek hes wacked! this sounds WAYY more serious then kenel cough."

misstraceyrick replied: "Have your dog tested for lungworm, it can be picked up from snails and slugs and is deadly if left untreated! Also get him tested for respiratory infections, TB being the main one! If the vet hasn't given you any worming tablets then get them from the pet shop and administer them immediately to your dog. The vet needs to put his a**e in gear and work quickly in this case, keep ringing him for test results and if he's slow on this point get yourself another vet! Your dog is your main priority here, nothings going to wait or be put back until whenever - you demand it be done and you demand the very best of care! Hope everything goes well for you both x"

Suzi replied: "Wow - I'm really sorry to hear about your dog. Wonder why the vet doesn't know what it is. Did you get to see the report yourself form Lousiana State? Maybe get a report and the x-rays and take them to someone else - just to be safe. Good luck and I hope everything works out for your dog. If the humane society where you got the dog has a vet on site, have him look at xrays & report. He should do it without charging you a fee."
