Do nsaids interfere with a weight loss program? I take 600 mg of prescription Ibuprofen 2 X a day. Will this medication interfere with a weight loss program? I hate to go through all that misery if the medicine is going to inhibit weight loss.

Amjad A replied: "The key for losing weight is easy - consume less and workout more - the issues arise when we really try to put that into operation! There are plenty of stumbling blocks in the big wide world don't you think?! I uncovered some splendid help by learning from the web resource in the box below, they have plenty of tips and tricks, I lost 5 pounds by following their techniques."

Ephedra Diets replied: "No it will not. Antidepressants and blood pressure medication will. What overweight women and men have learned is that for years virtually every professional bodybuilder, informed fitness expert and successful personal trainer would tell you the same thing. Whether you want to accelerate the burning of excess body fat, boost your metabolic rate, heighten your thermogenic output or increase your energy level, there is nothing stronger or more effective than the "thermogenic cocktail" of Ephedra, Caffeine, and Aspirin (The E/C/A- Stack"). Ibuprofen cause water weight gain? I just had my Paragard IUD inserted a week ago and was given Ibuprofen 800's to take. My doctor recommended that I take it round the clock 3 times a day and i've been doing that til today. I have noticed that I gained 7lbs in one week. I don't feel any pulge anywhere and kept checking my scale to see if it was wrong (lol) and I even went to the mall on those overweight scales and it gave me the weight that my scale back at home gave me. 7lbs over I have been doing research on the paragard with weight gain and i do not believe it is what's causing it, the only difference in my life that I have been doing is the ibuprofen. I eat about 1200 calories a day and workout everyday for at least 30 minutes (i'm on a weight loss plan). What do you think? On the american cancer society website it says: Ibuprofen can cause fluid retention and worsen heart failure. If you have unexplained weight gain or swelling, stop the ibuprofen and call your doctor. I am going to call them tomorrow, but do you guys think so too?

I took weight loss pills from my mother? Heres the thing. My mother is always telling me how I need to lose weight and I am getting sick of it. One day I was looking for so ibuprofen because I needed for the pain in my knee. Upon searching for the ibuprofen I came across Alli, weight loss pills. I thought what the hell! She is always telling me I am fat and I am always trying to lose weight. So why not try one or two? So I took a couple and the next day tried it. But I didnt see anything happen and forgot about it for a couple of weeks. That is until my little sister had to be in my room snooping and found them. I was out at the moment with one of my other sisters and my dad, so when I came home my mom called my dad into their room and close the door. So what I was trying to get to is that she didnt punish to bad but she is really pissed and is ignoring me. And now all my brothers and sister are all saying that I am on drugs. Every time they are mad at me they say to me at least I didnt steal drugs. Like I am on them still. What am I supposed to do about all of this? Another thing that I wanted to know was is 125 pounds overweight for a 50 frame? Thank you for your help! I don't feel fat.

carlos m replied: "go to a gym pills dont work go to a gym and exercise and start a diet and 125 pounds for a 5,0 is over weightyou need to be 108 at that age"

Pictsy replied: "that sucks! Your moms mean!! 125 lbs is not too bad on a 5'0 at all ! your Body Mass Index is 24.4 which is in the high end of average range. If you loose 5-10 lbs you will still be average. I would recommend trying to lose maybe 5lbs just so you dont become overweight! that can be done just through diet and excersise (although it is hard expecially when were so short!). Consider going to the gym on a daily basis and try to burn at lest 200 cals on the tredmil or elliptical daily plus eat healthy foods and snacks."

Megan replied: "Oh hunny, thats freaking horrible. :-( Im very sorry that this is happening to you, its terrible. You mom shouldnt be doing that, it isnt your fault, its hers. Weather she sees that or not. Maybe you should ask her, not rudely or anything, just so you can get her attention. Talk to her, she is your mother, point that out to her. Its wrong for her to ignore you, and even worse for your siblings to be saying crap like that. Tell her how she makes you feel, in a nice way of course. If she isnt listening go to your dad. And why dont you just ask why she has them(Pills) if they're "So bad". If you dont feel "fat", your probably not. Your body is YOURS. So only respect YOUR own opinion for YOUR body. Dont let any one else tell you how you "look", because it should only matter to you what YOU think."

Stefan replied: "There are a million people who will tell you what weight you SHOULD be. The thing is - weight shouldn't be guiding your self-esteem - certainly not to the point you would want to take diet pills. I don't know how old you are, but if you're taking them from "mom's room", you're likely too young. Look in the mirror - do you like the way you look? Don't worry about what other people tell you. IF you are overweight, exercise and eat right. Consider lowering your intake of high-fat or high-carb foods. Go slow. Don't expect to loose large numbers of pounds in a short time. Fact is, not everyone looks "right" at the "ideal" weight. As a guy, I like to see some curves, and not bones. As for the heckling you're getting from your siblings - they're doing that just to wind you up because they know you're already uncomfortable. Let it pass, and don't get angry - it will only add fuel to their fire. Like all things - that too will pass. Talk to your parents about your body issues. If you feel your mom is pushing you too hard to loose weight, TELL her that. Ask her for suggestions and polite help - but not nagging. Nagging only gets people to do the opposite (imho). Finally... remember this lesson, and don't take pills that belong to someone else again. Never a good idea - but you know that already, so :)"

Is it bad to take a Ibuprofen every night? I reached my weight loss goal and am 170lbs. Now I am working out to gain lean muscle, so I cut down my cardio to 3 days instead of 5 and have intensified my weight lifting. That causes a lot of soreness and taking a Ibuprofen (800 mg) makes a whole world of a difference as it allows me to sleep without pain and wake up feeling good. Is it bad to take one every night?

lv_consultant replied: "if you are constantly sore from resistance training there are problems in your diet"

amyrose072 replied: "yeah, why would you take it every night and if you knew a little more about exercise not to be sarcastic or anything you would know you get sore because when you exerise really hard and it gets sore while your doing it is because you get little tiny tears in your muscle and when that happens you rest a day the soreness goes away and those tears were healed and new muscle built over them you need to take rest days its not good to take buprofen everynight its pretty bad for you and especialy at such a high doseage"

kikidismom replied: "High doses of ibuprofen can be hard on your liver after a while, esp. if you drink (which is also hard on your liver). You might be pushing the weights a little to hard and need to back off a little b/c I don't think you should be in that much pain unless you just started the working out w/ weights."

Brad T replied: "If you read the bottle, it's not bad to take one every night, assuming you don't take any others during the day. Just follow the dosage indicated."

Pooh-Bear replied: "dont think so"

lisa s replied: "i've been told taking ibuprofen all the time can eat the lining of your stomache...that it was not good to take all the time...my childrens doctor told me not to give my kids childrens motrin which is just like ibuprofen all the time because of that..that's why they tell u to switch between motrin and tylonole..."

suburbcat replied: "Yes, prolonged use of ibuprophen is linked to health problems such as bleeding stomach ulcers, gastritis, and even some heart issues. Are you alternating what muscle groups you work on every day? Like work upper body today, lower body tomorrow? If not, you're probably have some repetitive motion injuries by not letting your muscles recouperate. You also need at least one day per week with no work out to allow your body to rest. I reccomend that you trim down your weight lifting to the point you were before you ramped it up. Then, start very slowly intensifying your workout: week one add one rep to every set, week two add one pound of weight, week three add another rep, etc. This will help you slowly gain muscle safely. In the meantime, try icing your sore muscles (15 minutes on, 15 minutes off) before going to bed. You can even alternate ice with a heating pad, or use a non-asprin sports cream. BTW, it's tylenol, not ibuprofen, that causes liver problems."

Psychotic episode, sleep deprived, loss of weight, paranoia...? 18 yr old male, healthy 100 lbs History: -born premature -gets B12 shots every month, because of necrotizing entercolitis Recently: -oral surgery to remove wisdom teeth and a growth on his tongue; used a general anesthesia and was given follow up meds(Ibuprofen, amoxicillin, and methylprednisolone) Day after surgery: -insomnia (he didnt sleep at all) -had to settle for a liquid for his mouth to heal, but then began to lose his appetite completely when he did try to eat, he made facial expressions that made it seem as though its flavor was unpleasant, but this could be due to the sores -grew paranoid over his health and insisted on getting multiple tests done, but tests showed no unusual results Next Day: -he had lost 9 lbs since surgery. It was to the point where sit was uncomfortable on his tailbone and this worried him. -continuation of symptoms above -discontinued surgery meds, because we felt that he mightve been having a bad reaction to it Day 3: - same as above -began going around to his friends and family, saying I love you in a sad/fearful manner -pacing around and showing signs of much anxiety Later that night: -went up to his brother and said this is the night, Im going to die -began to have a psychotic episode: ~began to cry ~told us to stay away from him, get out of the house, get away from me, I might hurt you, im going to die laterare the cops coming?, dont do it, dont kill me etc. he was trying to make himself vomit was making a dry heave noise??... like metal music etc black metal growl noise ??? ~was dragging himself around the room and at a certain time, was trying to bang his head against the wall ~still no sleep that night Day 4: -seemed to have calmed down -took him to a psychiatrist, and he got nervous -difficulty communicating -rocking -blank stare, but responded to his name -said he wasnt hearing voices when we asked -stiffened up when nervous -wanted to go home, repeated it, continuously asked where am i?.. -responded only to the family and closer friends -psychiatrist suggested to take him to a college psych hospital Car ride to ER: -one of his favorite songs came on the radio, and he started to dance and began to act like he was at a party and started to get excited and told us to dance with him we got excited and started to play along this lasted until the music was turned off immediately after the music was shut off, he calmed down and was quiet again. ER: -nervous stiff but able to play tetris on gameboy -was given benadryl and atavan(sp?) and calmed down to the point where he could explain to us that he remembers everything. Described the past few days as a dream, explaining that the dream was vivid and at times he even thought of himself as an alien -while talking, he seemed to be normal, but a little nervous about being in the ER and was acting a little loopy possibly due to the meds or the fact that he still hasnt slept at all -psych evaluation member came to evaluate his mental state wrote down that he was hearing voices even though when asked he said no Taken to the psych hospital: -anxiety and nervousness stiffened him up a bit, but with comfort from his brother, he calmed down a bit -when the family left the psych hospital, he seemed even more normal than how he acted at the ER, except he mentioned that he dreamt of dying in that very place Day 2 of psych hospital: -stiffened up, still no sleep. -we were told that he was pacing around the hospital probably at an extremely slow pace Morning visit: -seemed to have reverted back to an out of reality experience, but did respond to family however his responses had slight delays Afternoon visit: -we arrived to find that he was taken to the ER because his pulse shot up to 200+ ER visit: -family to ER, doctors tried to give him meds to calm down, restrained him to bed because he was stiffening up and freaking out and the doctors thought that he was going to hurt them but he began to calm down when he saw his family.. -they later gave him benadryl and atavan and a tranquilizer in an attempt to make him sleep at first, he was fighting sleep. While he was still awake, they got a urine sample. A staff member from the psych hospital who was there to monitor threw away the sample thinking that it was already tested. He later slept for about 4 hrs I believe he was also hooked up to an IV, but not positive -woke him up for ANOTHER urine sample and CAT scan -while awake, he was anxious and delusional most likely hallucinating because he was saying that he was doing things that he really wasnt -once again calmed down once his family talked to him then he was given the same meds to calm him down from before -he attempted to sleep but he would often wake up every few minutes while they were waiting for the test results from the urine sample -when the test was finished he got the clear t Day 2 of psych hospital: -stiffened up, still no sleep. -we were told that he was pacing around the hospital probably at an extremely slow pace Morning visit: -seemed to have reverted back to an out of reality experience, but did respond to family however his responses had slight delays Afternoon visit: -we arrived to find that he was taken to the ER because his pulse shot up to 200+ sorry about that last post... here's what i wanted... James B replied: "Note: I'm not an MD, but..... 18 is a typical age for the first psychotic episode associated with schizophrenia... Also; paranoid schiz' will often deny 'hearing voices' but trained staff can usually tell when they are responding to hallucinatory internal stimuli just the same. It's possible that the surgery/anesthesia experience simply set him off, and this illness would've manifested itself sooner or later anyway. I'll be very surprised if this isn't a psychotic break and is attributed to some bizzare medical vs. psychiatric disturbance. This must be heart-breaking and terrifying for you, and I hope you'll get support and answers soon."

jcoolteeny replied: "I have no clue to what this person could have. I just hope that they are getting the help that they need and that you are there for this person. Sorry that I don't have any answers but I am sure that the doctors are doing all that they can"

gorgeousgab replied: "Psychotic episode INDEED. He'll most likely stay at the hospital for another few days, until the most intense part of this psychosis is over. Which is when they determine if he is still a risk to himself or others. If he is not they will send him home with some medication and a prescription slip for a antipsychotic. It's weird, I've heard about a lot of people who have gotten their wisdom teeth pulled and then suffer an episode (manic, depression, psychotic) it made me wonder because I was considering having my wisdom tooth removed. I think its a combination of the pain, the surgery, and the medications that bring on the episode."

maliboo_girl replied: "Unfortunately, I think James may be on track. Was this young man born very premature? Unfortunately, prematurity is a risk factor for mental issues like schizophrenia. I'm not a medical professional, but I've done a lot of reading on prematurity and mental issues since my teen son was born extremely premature and I want to know what to look for. So far, no issues. I'm so sorry I can't offer any real advice, except please make sure he continues to see doctors until the issue can be figured out. I hope you get answers soon. Take care."

What can be the reason why a occipital lymph node is hard, like a small bean but without any pain? Is like a small ball but very small as a bean, but it doesn't hurt at all. I'm talking about a young man, 27 years old that has no weight loss or fever or any other unusual symptoms, just a sore back, but he says it is muscular and is also helped by taking ibuprofen. The node has been so for more than a couple of months I think. Exactly one year ago he got tested for everything and everything was perfectly well. Is this node a reason for being alarm?

jsemkralfootball replied: "cancer go see a doctor"

Elphaba replied: "He could just be fighting off a germ or virus, but if you are worried, go get it checked out!"

nageshanilayaprathama replied: "Note down previous history of diseases, you may find clue"

izzy replied: "He needs to go back to his doctorand ask this question. That is the only way to get a definitive diagnosis. If his doctor is not sure what is causing the problem, he may need to have the swollen node biopsied. To perform this procedure, his doctor will insert a needle in the lymph node, remove a sample of tissue or fluid, and send the sample to a laboratory."

Feel sick every time I put anything in my stomach? I had elbow surgery and now am having shoulder surgery so have been on pain meds ie asprin and ibuprofen since march anytime I eat or drink anything besides milk or water I feel like crap, like throwing up? am allergic to tylenol any suggestions I am hungry stomach is bloated have minimal weight loss a few pounds. I am thinking ulcer but stools look fine. Will try an acid reducer today any other suggestions?

ellen d replied: "Can they give you an alternative like tramadol? If you are allergic to acetaminophen, and the ibuprofen is causing stomach upset then you would need something that is not over the counter."

nejitenotp replied: ""Do you drink enough liquids? If you don't have 6-8 cups of water a day, you probably are dehydrated! *Note 6-8 cups doesn't equal 6-8 glasses. A glass is usually 16oz, so you should really only need a few cups of water a day. Increase your liquid intake, and if you're saying you don't eat a lot anymore, that certainly doesn't sound healthy. If eating a lot at once doesn't work, eat a little more often. It's healthier anyway... just make sure to have snacks throughout the day and follow them up with something to drink and if that doesn't solve your problem, go see a doctor." [[Hope this helps, sorry if it doesn't!]]"

Ziggy replied: "You may want to revisit your doctor and ask for a review of your medication .... asprin in particular is renouned for eating the lining of the stomach .... the normal acid produced in your stomach is doubled and eventually leads onto stomach ulcers ... the fact that only milk or water are digestable are good indicators. Ask your doctor to consider tramadol or dihydrocodein, just as effective but less acid producing..... I wish you well...."

i failed my drug test ,i had benzo in my system? please help what pill is it? they said anxiety? ok i have no reason to lie about what pills i take especially on the net, i went to walmart pharmacy to see if any of my pills had nezo in it but they said they couldnt help me, that i needed to call my doctor my drug test came back that i had benzodiazepines AKA benzo in my system now i been taking BACTRIM and also KEFLEX for a skin infection, also i take PERCOCET for pain all prescribed to me also I have some other pills i have taken- STACKER 3 (weight loss/energy) IBUPROFEN pain med, tylenol with codein pain med, BENTYL 10mg. for bowel problems FLAGYL a while ago AMOXICILLIN when i was sick not to long ago so has anyone ever had benzo in their system ??? could it be from ANY of those pills i listed that i have taken within the past 30 days? thanks i have not taken xanax since july of 2008 also i have never taken valium i have taken vicodin but it has been last year summer of 08, i stopped using illegal drugs, now honestly i am being truthful and need to know why i failed, i really need to know what pill they found benzo in so i can get a doctor note i also take norflex for headaches

Greywolf replied: "Sometimes they get mixed readings depending on what you're taking and what they're testing for with the urinalysis. The test may have hit on the percocet or the tylenol with codine. You need to show whoever gave you the test your prescriptions so they can talk to whatever lab they had do the test. You should be okay as long as you have the scripts. Walmart could probably give you a full print out too. If you're being completely honest and it was a urine test, give them everything you've taken within the last sixty days - you'll be okay."

Sasha replied: "Benzodiazepines are a specific family of drugs. They different drugs can be described as anxiolytics (work on anxiety),anti-convulsants, hypnotics, myorelaxants (muscle relaxants) and amnesics. Unfortunately for you, other than the xanax you said you last took in 2008, none of the drugs you listed are benzodiazepines. There are quite a few choices on the street besides valium. The first column is the trade name, the second is the generic name. Ativan - lorazepam Azene - chlorazepate Centrax - prazepam Clonopin - clonazepam Dalmane - lurazepam Halcion - triazolam Librium - chlordiazepoxide Paxipam - halazepam Restoril - temazepam Serax - oxazepam Valium - diazepam Xanax - alprazolam Good luck, Sweetie."

Lea replied: "The Bentyl is probably your problem. It can cause false positives. Percocet would cause a positive opioid test. Some weight loss pills can reactions."

How can I stop serious pain in my shins when I run? I have always been overweight, but have recently (within the past three months) taken a serious approach to weight loss (ie, gym every night, personal trainer, diet plan). When I first started in November, I was so absolutely out of shape that I could barely run for 30 seconds or jumprope for a minute. This has gotten better and my endurance is better (not GREAT, but better) and I can now run for almost 7 minutes (I've never been able to do that in my whole entire life - even as a kid!!). My problem, however, is this: When I run, I get shin splints or something so badly it feels as if my shins are literally shattering into a million tiny pieces. If I've been running at the gym, I can count on my lower legs hurting terribly for the next week. Heat does not help, nor does ice. I've gotten to the point where I take 800mg of ibuprofen before I go to the gym to control it a little bit, but it is still intensely painful and I'm pretty sure this isn't normal. I did go to my doctor and she recommended the ibuprofen, but aside from that just says that it sounds like shin splints. I've had shin splints before, though, and this pain is different - mainly on the inside of my shins as opposed to down the center. And it seems to get worse - the pain in November wasn't nearly this bad and I've lost 30lbs since then. Does this happen to anyone else? How can I alleviate the pain without having to take 800mg of ibuprofen every day before I work out? How can I speed up recovery time so I can walk normally the next morning?

Iryna replied: "well the main cause of shin splints is an overused muscle, either as an acute injury or delayed onset muscle soreness. The muscle pain is caused by any activity that involves running, jumping, also sometimes even walking, swimming, roller skating, or other basic physical activity. An individual not accustomed to running may experience pain in the shin muscles the next day even after a single, short bout of intensive running. Sometimes shin splints is also a result of stress fractures in the shin. The immediate treatment for shin splints is rest. Running and other strenuous lower limb activities, like basketball and other sports which include flexing the muscle, should be avoided until the pain subsides and is no longer elicited by activity. In conjunction with rest, anti-inflammatory treatments such as icing and drugs, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (in particular, NSAID gel) may be suggested by a doctor or athletic trainer. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also be taken, though there is some controversy over their effectiveness. Furthermore, the lower legs may be taped to stabilize and take some load off the periosteum. Finally, using good shoes (ideally compensating for individual foot differences) is important. The shin can be trained for greater static and dynamic flexibility through adaptation, which will diminish the contracting reflex, and allow the muscles to handle the rapid stretch. The key to this is to stretch the shins regularly. However, static stretching might not be enough. To adapt a muscle to rapid, eccentric contraction, it has to acquire greater dynamic flexibility as well. One way to work on the dynamic flexibility of the anterior shin is to subject it to exaggerated stress, in a controlled way, such as walking on the heels. If the muscle is regularly subject to an even greater dynamic, eccentric contraction than during the intended exercise, it will become more capable of handling the ordinary amount of stress. Experienced long-distance runners practice controlled downhill running as a part of training, which places greater eccentric loads on the quadriceps as well as on the shins. A physical therapist, athletic trainer, or doctor should be consulted before engaging in this type of training. The long-term remedy for muscle-related pain in the shin is a change in the running style to eliminate the overstriding and heavy heel strike."

replied: "I might be stress fractures. I had those from running too much, and my doctor told me there is nothing to do but let them heal. You need to stop the impact on your legs so they can get better. Do your cardio on a elliptical machine, swim, stair climber, etc etc... Something that takes away the impact of running..."

Simon T replied: "I've experienced a similar sort of thing myself when I've exercised after a long break. After a couple of weeks of using the treadmill, I'd start to have a pain in my shins almost like a stabbing pain right down the center (feeling as though it was in the bone, rather than the muscle). It got to the point that just walking hurt. The only way I found to sort that out was to stop running until the pain died down. it took a good couple of weeks last time I had that issue."

Taken by a Texan replied: "You shouldn't have to be taking so much ibuprofen to just get through the gym. It sounds so simple but: when your body is in pain it's trying to tell you something. Many people forget this and just try to "push through" which is only going to get you more injured and may possibly be irreversible. You probably have stress fractures and I would get a second opinion from another Doctor. Maybe even a trainer at your gym or something. I've had many a trainers diagnose me better than doctor's when it comes to exercise and pain. If you lost 30 lbs (congratulations, btw!!) you were obviously quite heavy to begin with. You could have done some serious damage running on your legs when being heavy. You could also try something like the elliptical instead of running. Running is very very hard on legs and knees, especially when you are heavy and especially in women. A great majority of women are not natural runners b/c our hips are bigger/wider than our knees which puts major stress on our knees. Try the elliptical instead...or a machine that suspends you from the ground (like the elliptical), so you aren't putting so much pressure on your legs. You will be able to do more time on the elliptical and not hurt yourself as much. Good luck and congratulations again on your weight loss and dedication!"

Anger Management #58 replied: "First of all, awesome job on tackling your weight. Several factors can help with or manage the pain from shin splints. Do some research so you have a better understanding. Thats is the first steps. Make sure that your sneakers are good for running, good support for arch and heal cushions. I found that getting rid of the factory one and installing a true orthopedic is a step in the right direction. This aligns your ankles, knees and bones. You didn't say your runnning surface. Change your running surface. Pavement is the worst. find a track at a school that made for running. or find a softer surface. Ibuprofen didn't even begin to help my shins. Do ice them after work out 20minutes on then off. Although, they have shin splint braces. I found that wrapping my shins with a ace bandage starting at the bottom and working my way up, worked best. The compression from the wrapped compress the surrounding muscles and stealth of the bone and offered the best relieve. Your pace of which you working in to running may be to adbupt for you, start back at fast walking then alternate to jogging. You need to strenghten that area there are suggested exercises online at varies sites. I found that toes raises, heal raises, calf raises and stretches that centered on this area worked best. Failure to Stretch the calf area was a contributing cause of shin splints. I would have to stop in the middle of a run just to stretch. But it was for the better. I am now problematic free but it has taken a couple of years of building up a rigorous program to ensure that I stretch and start each season slow. I run triathlons, now. I too was seriously over weight, endever to endure. Best of Luck."

What would you make of this from my symptoms? For the last couple of weeks, I've been feeling very strange. I've been having back pain from the choreography of our competition show for show choir. I am also on a new ADD medication, Daytrana (this is my third medication in the last 10 years.) And yes, it does have side effects. Within the last week and a half, everything about me has changed. Here's a list of what's been going on: -Severe back pain (I've been taking care of it with physical therapy and icing it and taking Ibuprofen) -Constant stomach pain (the kind where you feel like you could just throw up) -Lack of sleep (there are nights where I will sleep like a rock and others where I'll either wake up constantly or I'll be awake all night; I mostly can't sleep though) -Decreased appetite (I'm very picky and I always have been so I've never really been on that much of a healthy diet; however, within the last few weeks, my stomach just doesn't want to take in very much food and I always have a stomach ache for long periods of time during the day and the night) -Weight loss (I'm always losing weight but I've been losing more weight recently than I have in the last few months) -Constant change in body temperature (My parents keep our house colder than they used to because of the whole energy/money-saving crap; I always wear a hoodie to school because of the freezing cold temperatures inside; even when I'm in warm areas, I constantly feel cold; and all weekend, I checked my temperature a few times a day, and my temperature was always lower than it was before (I think the lowest was about 95.2 degrees) -Hands and feet constantly cold (Refer to the last one; my hands and feet will stay cold for hours, especially my hands) -Constant weakness (I feel like all of my energy has been sucked out of me) -Dizziness (I feel dizzy at random times) -Nausea (I've been feeling nauseated since Thursday) -This one is hard to explain but it's something like this (Whenever I lay down at night on either of my sides, it feels like the very end of my rib cage is pushing against something; I'm not sure if it's my spleen or my appendix or my kidneys or whatever) -Slight burning/tingling sensation on the back of my neck up by my head and in my throat (It was very awkward to have that feeling) That pretty much sums it up. I'd like to know what could be going on inside of me. Or what is wrong with me. I'd like some clarification on this. Please help me. Thank you! =] I'm also very pale. I'm somewhat tan most of the time but I've been pretty pale lately. I switched from Concerta because I built up a tolerance to it. And I take a 10 mg Ritalin in the afternoon for study time.

unlikelyhoneydip replied: "Daytrana has side effects including skin irritation, appetite suppression, insomnia, irritability, stomach upset, and weight loss. Rarer, more severe stimulant side effects could potentially include seizures, cardiac events, elevated blood pressure, tics, psychosis and mania. Please tell your parent or guardian. You may have to be taken off those meds. Sounds like the side effects far outweigh the actual affliction it is prescribed to treat. Good Luck getting all this sorted, sweetie! And I hope you kick butt at the competition!"

TwilghtThespian replied: "First of all, this is just my opinion, & I can help you best I can. Yep, I'm in the lifesaving business myself for the last 11 years, I have had medical training, 4 long years of torture! I digress. First, did the doctor wean you off your old medication before starting the new meds? I went to the Daytrana website & all your symptoms seem to be the listed side effects, nausea ,vomiting, insomnia, weight loss. You're on a patch now. Therefore there is more medication coming in contact with your system at one time. It's a trans-dermal system, time released. Let's say you were taking Ritalin daily before. Now you're getting one weeks worth of meds in one setting. It's like taking the pill everyday and going to the Ortho-Evra patch. Same thing, you can have more intense side effects since you're getting a weeks worth at one time. It's time released I know but it can still happen. Discuss these side effects with your physician if they continue. Your symptoms are normal side effects for any CNS stimulant. The cold you feel is the vasoconstriction of your vessels in your limbs, The weakness & dizziness could also be from this. I would go to my doctor as let him or her know what's going on. With any medication of this type it may take a couple weeks for your body to get used to it. Hope that helps! Again, this is just my opinion, not giving any medical advise or anything. If you feel badly enough, have shortness or breath or chest pain, go to your closest ER! I hope you feel better soon!"
