Just out of curiousity, can weed interact with nerve medicines such as Concerta & Risperdal? I just thought of this question out of the blue. I don't smoke pot, and probably never will. But if I ever did, would it interact with my ADHD & OCD medications? I take Concerta & Risperdone (Generic for Risperdal). I'm just really curious about this. I mean would it kill me or put me in the hospital? Just curious. If anyone can help me out, I'd be really thankful.

FreeRunner09 replied: "pothead"

Dave M replied: "All drugs regardless of their legality interact with each other. ADHD drugs themselves can mess you up pretty badly, so I wouldn't risk it."

Amanda replied: "The weed is gonna counteract many of the effects. It's gonna make you super sleepy and unable to concentrate, despite the meds. Doesn't risperdal tend to make you super hungry? Because weed's gonna make that about a hundred times worse as well. It's not going to be a deadly combination, though."

Bob replied: "You really think I believe someone w/ the name "hippyman" and whose avatar has a ty dyed hippy in it doesn't smoke weed? I HIGHLY doubt smoking weed would kill anyone on any meds. It may prove a better med for your conditions."

Joe replied: "yeah it deffinitly can because weed is a drug to make you "happy" and risperidal is a drug to stableize your mood. the chemical imbalance in your head may cause somthing to go wrong. it wont make you explode but i suggest not smoking while on an anti-dipressant or mood stabilizer."

Shano replied: "I wouldn't do it If I were you."

Would my body respond the a generic medication the same as it would to a brand name? So, I've been taking a small dose of Risperdal for anxiety and OCD while I wait for my Prozac to fully kick in, but now my doctor is prescribing me the generic Risperdone. Can I get different side effects? Or should everything be about the same? I'm scared of taking new medications, and I'm just worried that this new generic will effect my body differently. Thank you for your help.

christina c replied: "it won't change anything. you will respond to it the way you did to the med. it's the same med."

LDB449 replied: "The generic is the same stuff, at least it is suppose to be. I am sure there must be a Doctor here or a pharmacist that can answer that question."

Kate Q replied: "Generics are supposed to be basically the same. But it's not impossible to have different reactions to different brands. For instance some brands of medication use different fillers or dyes than others. So it's possible to be allergic to one brand of the same medication and not to another brand. But that's pretty rare, so I wouldn't worry."

Can I get the government to pay for my meds? I have bipolar schizophrenia and I have no health insurance in the next month as I am being taken off my fathers. I also have none through my job. Is there any way to get the government to at least help if not pay for my meds? (I take risperidone, the generic of risperdal) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Iargainn replied: "If you still live with your father, then the most likely answer is no. If you are on your own, then it depends on the state and your income."

versantly replied: "contact PPARX -you can find the info online for med assistance. don't forget to talk to your doctor about this, too."

When Will Side Affects Of Risperdal Go Away? I was put on the generic for risperdal --"invega" in march/april of this year and since then I have been gaining all-over weight like pregnant and in my abdomen as well. ( I was 130 when I started this medication) Now I am 189!! I also have milk coming from both of my breasts since september and I am not pregnant! I just saw my doctor and he put me on "serequel" ----WHEN WILL THE SIDE AFFECTS OF RISPERDAL GO AWAY??

vaughn favrua is back replied: "do you excercise? i was told that i was going to gain weight myself but i lost weight. but i hated it. i was beat tired and weak as hell. mail me back and il help you with this"

Ack! Are there any generic Bipolar meds left? I've had bad experiences with seroquel, risperdal, lithium, trileptal, and lamictal. I need something, but I really can't afford a brand name med right now, and my Dr. doesn't have samples. Besides depakote, is there anything left that's available as a generic?

Amanda replied: "I take Neurontin, and it works GREAT, If you can get a prescription for it, then have your Dr or maybe even you can go to the pfizer website and sign up for connection to care, and you will get 3 months for free, every 3 months, Neurontin is used for seizures and nerve pain, but its been used for bi-polar. If you need anymore info you can email me"

when does the patents expire for Lamictal and Risperdal? when will the generics be available for sale in the United States

Nicolas L replied: "Both are now available as generics in Canada, so while I don't know the exact date when they'll be available in the US, you can assume that they might be already on the market or will be very soon."

Risperdal is supposed to have its patent expired today(12/29/07). Could anyone confirm this? If so, what is going to happen next? When could I buy the generic version? Thanks a lot.

Angelia replied: "According to the Rx Newsletter site, Risperdal's patent is supposed to expire today. Here's the website for it: Starting today, this would be the earliest time for the release for a generic Risperdal, provided there are no lawsuits against the drug or any other obstacles that come up along the way. This is according to a site about generic Risperdal: Hope this helps."

fiVe replied: "I found one article that says it expires today and one that says it will expire in 2008, but not what month, so it could still be quite soon."

Risperdal and Zoloft have me constipated what should I do? I was on Zyprexa and Prozac for about 8 years. I gained a ton of weight on them. Now I've been on Risperdal and Zoloft for a few months and can't go to the bathroom without taking a harsh laxative. I've tried all sorts of stool softeners and veggie laxagtives and alot of fiber in my diet. I can't really afford to go back on Zyprexa, there's no generic. My pharmacist suggested Miralax twice a day to help. Nothing so far. I am up in the air as to what to take.

Nordictat2 replied: "That is not good at all and having to keep taking laxatives to just have a bowel movement is not good either! I think you need to tell your doctor about this AND get off the meds or try something else you can afford!"

Betty M replied: "You can either drink some prune juice, or take Metamucil which is over the counter or Lactulose, which is really, really good and works for chronic constipation, which I too have because of medications. You do not need a prescription for it, in Canada anyway. I am quite sure the latter will work for you and has no side effects, other than feeling a bit better. It is quite natural as well. Take care and wishing you much wellness."

Lea replied: "If you really need to go, biscodyl is the way to go. For people taking opiates for pain relief, it is recommended that they take both a stool softener and milk of magnesia or senna. While you are not taking an opiate, the regimen might still be beneficial. If it doesn't go away, you should talk to your physician."

How healthy is Risperdal(Risperidone) for me? Are there any alternatives? Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome as a young child and was put on Risperidone (generic for Risperidal) in the fourth grade. I was taking 0.25 doses. Last year, as a sophomore in high school I suffered from major anxiety and depression, so my neurologist boosted my dose to 1 MG twice a day. Since I was put on this dosage, I have had a major weight gain, increased appetite, and when I'm on my menstrual cycle, my breasts produce milk. I do not know if this is healthy for a 16 year old. I have talked to my doctor, but they said not to worry. Still, I feel like I should be on a different medication because I fear this increases my risk for breast cancer. Is there any alternatives to Risperdal that do not make you gain weight and make you lactate??

Eric replied: "Hi, Herbal and homeopathic remedies can be viable alternatives to synthetic drugs and may be just as effective, with far fewer risks and side effects. It is important that you only use natural remedies from a reliable source, as the quality of herbs used as well as methods of preparation may affect the strength and effectiveness of the remedy. Depending on the symptoms that need treatment, certain herbal ingredients such as St. Johns Wort, Melissa officinalis, Passiflora, and Chamomile, among others, may be recommended as part of a holistic treatment plan. Natural remedies may often contain a combination of ingredients for best effect. A holistic treatment plan aims to address the underlying cause of the problem and does not just treat the symptoms in isolation. In this way, it provides an all-around approach to greater well-being. You may get more information on such herbal remedies and nutritional recommendations from the source link below."
