Has anyone taken Cipro during their pregnancy? I am 29 wks and on Cipro for a bad UTI for 10 days. Its a preg category C antibiotic. I am worried about taking it, but its the best thing to do right now to avoid a kidney infection.

kt w/ advice replied: "If the doc told you to take it then I would the benefits would out way the negatives! If you do not take it then the kidney infection could get so bad not just making you in sever pain but also causing you to go into pre term labor and possibly affecting you baby's life."

redunicorn replied: "I had to take it during my pregnancy for a bad sinus infection. In my case breathing was a major issue. If your doctor prescribed it, it should be safe."

Was anyone prescribed Cipro during their pregnancy? I am 28 1/2 weeks pregnant and am seeing a urologist for frequent UTI's. She said the infection I have now is only treatable with Cipro, which is a pregnancy category C. She ran it by my OB-GYN and he has okay'd it for 10 days. I am still nervous to take it though...anyone else had to take this drug or any other preg category C?

momof1and1ontheway replied: "I had a UTI when I was about 12 weeks along and was given that. My son is 5 months old and as healthy as could be. I was told that cipro is more safe for your fetus then the infection is. I got this off of experts.about.com... "Cipro can be safely used during pregnancy and does not cause any embryotoxic effects." sanders_mel replied: "no. but i was prescribed something else and i did a big fuss about. than i said to myself, the doctor would never give you something to harm you or your baby. so , don't worry about it. that's extra stress that you don't need at the moment. good luck"

Has anyone took this during pregnancy? I went to the hospital july8th for a kidney inf. They gave me cipro (I think that's what it's called) it's a antiobiotic well I didn't like the way it made me feel so I only took 3 pills well I went to my dr and he gave mr amoxicillion I only took like 4 of these! At the hospital they did a urine sample and it said I wasn't pregnant! Well I conceived July 15 and am now pregnant will this hve any effect on my baby??

Marie W replied: "I don't know about cipro, i've never heard of it, but i have been prescribed amoxcillin in pregnancy as i had an infection in my gums. I checked with the doctor after my dentist prescribed it and they said its fine. As the first ones were taken before conception you should be fine."

Charm replied: "You have a kidney infection, and you didn't take the medication. And then your doctor gave you amoxicillin, and you didn't take that. Ignoring doctor's instructions, not taking medication to cure your infection, you're going to make one fine mother. Having a kidney infection while pregnant will do more damage than any of these medications will."
